Hello All!
Today was day two of an intensive 2-day project workshop here at Cambrian College / eDome, in Sudbury, Ontario. Today’s workshop focused on the planning and design of basic radiography learning objects.
8:30 AM – Planning and Design I
The project team huddled together to develop an action plan for basic radiography learning objects production at eDome. Robert and Lise spearheaded the planning session using the BRT Positioning Manual as a framework for production.
12:00 PM – Lunch
1:00 PM – Planning and Design II
Jeff sat down with Janet and Liz to review the “Hand” module in the BRT Positioning Manual. A rough draft of the learning object script was developed and then a mock shoot was acted out using make shift props.
You can view the mock shoot by clicking on the above image or click on the following link:
We discussed the logistics of Oji-Cree and Cree narration and decided to translate English scripts into syllabics. It was evident that a prototype basic radiography learning object needed to be produced prior to full production. We decided to shoot the prototype on May 15-16, 2008.
Full eDome production scheduled for July 2-11, 2008.

8 :30 AM – Welcome & Introductions
It was great to see and hear the participants huddled together and sharing interests and stories around the meeting table. It was an exciting display of diverse talents and professional expertise coming together to create a truly multi-disciplinary project team! A special thank you to Joyce and Loretta, and the Wabnode Institute staff for their welcoming remarks and warm hospitality.
8:45 AM – Workshop Overview
We focused on the day’s business as Gordon proceeded to enlighten the team with the overall vision of the project including its aims and objectives, and key deliverables. Gordon stressed the importance of documenting the project and brought along a digital camcorder for that purpose. We reviewed the workshop agenda and materials and discussed the activities planned for today and tomorrow. The overall purpose of the workshop was to examine both product and process in order to establish a framework for the design, development and delivery of basic radiography learning objects.
9:15 AM – Basic Radiological Technician Program
Janet and Liz briefed the team on the Basic Radiological Technician Program. We briefly reviewed the BRT course manual and discussed instructional methods, learners and learning context.
10:00 AM – Break
10:30 AM – Tour of Cambrian & eDome Orientation
Joyce and Loretta gave the project team a quick tour of the Cambrian College campus while we made our way to the eDome facility. At eDome, Robert provided the team with a complete overview of the eDome facility – why it was built, how it worked, and how it is used to enhance teaching and learning.
12:00 PM – Lunch
1:00 PM – Learning Object Design and Development
The project team sat down to learn about learning objects – what they are and how they are used in education and training. Robert gave us insight into learning object design and development at Cambrian College. We reviewed radiography learning objects (that is, x-ray procedural videos) from a similar radiography project in Europe.
2:30 PM – Break
3:00 PM – Learning Object Repository and Moodle
Gordon, Loretta and Fernando gave separate demonstrations of Moodle, a web-based learning management system, and each explained how it is used to deliver online education programs and courses for Aboriginal students. We discussed the concept of using Moodle as a learning object repository to store and deliver learning objects for First Nations schools, institutions and learning organizations.
