Rebecca has been busy going over the chemistry course curriculum and identifying topics and areas where learning objects can facilitate and support student learning and comprehension. As a result of her effort, Rebecca has developed a wish list for potential learning objects.

On June 15, 2009, the project team gathered at OSHKI to begin the planning and scoping phase of the project. Rebecca provided the project team members with an overview of the chemistry course curriculum including looking at the learning objectives for each unit. Sandra contributed to the discussion by sharing her own learning experiences in successfully completing the Pre Health Sciences chemistry. Orion discussed the use of the Learning Object Framework and how it can be integrated with Moodle. Tyler, Ben and Sarah offered ideas for chemistry learning objects.

On June 8, 2009, the project delivered an orientation day for the recently hired Multimedia Developers. Tyler, Ben and Sarah spent the day at OSHKI getting oriented on the project and trained in the use of the project tools including Moodle. Each also had the opportunity to do a presentation on a multimedia project to showcase their creativity and talent. Orion demonstrated the College’s Learning Object Framework and how it can be used by the project to deliver chemistry learning objects.

During the month of May, Gordon was busy mobilizing the project team and working with Orion to recruit three (3) Multimedia Developers from the College’s Multimedia Production program. We wish to thank all those multimedia students who applied for the positions. As a result of the recruitment, we hired three talented individuals who will comprise our core multimedia development team. We welcome Tyler Langlade, Ben Torfe and Sarah Stella to the project team.
Tyler is a second year Multimedia Production student who has a passion for using computers as a creative outlet for turning his ideas into visual, interactive products that others can enjoy. Tyler is a talented musician who enjoys writing and recording music on his home studio.
Ben is a second year Multimedia Production student who uses his English background to make fictional stories and characters come alive on computers by designing richly detailed three-dimensional (3-D) models and environments. Ben is a talented visionary artist.
Sarah is also a second year Multimedia Production student who enjoys coding and creating 3-D character animations and mods for computer games. Sarah is a talented illustrator and character designer.
The combined talents of these three individuals will help to create the rich, interactive chemistry learning objects required by the project.
